Erasmus for teachers

Since May 2015 The Duchess Izabela Czartoryska Lower Secondary School No 93 in Warsaw has carried out a project entitled ‘Language skills development among bilingual education teachers’.

As part of the project, 13 teachers participated in various training courses, including language and methodology for teachers. The training courses were held in different EU countries and their main objective was:

  • to develop language and cultural skills

  • to increase teaching skills regarding bilingual education

  • to improve school management skills

All interested teachers were asked to fill in the questionnaire. Information gathered from the questionnaire was used to prepare European School Development Plan. The plan aims to develop bilingual education which was introduced in our school in 2012. Teachers, who teach non-linguistic subjects in English, took part in methodology and culture trainings in Ireland and the UK (Plymouth, Gloucester, Oxford, Portsmouth).  Thanks to these trainings teachers enriched their professional knowledge and learnt how to introduce the system of CLIL teaching in their classes. Foreign language teachers were trained in Austria, Italy and the UK to enhance their language and teaching skills.

The head teacher and the deputy head teacher participated in a school management training in Scotland. The purpose of this type of training was to gain knowledge about education systems and school organizational structures in the UK.

The project also focuses on the development of ICT skills. The teachers of Lower Secondary School No 93 learnt how to create e-books, online newspapers, timelines, movies, prezi presentations and wordpress. What is more, the training gave participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of MS excel.

The implementation of this project has resulted in the following benefits:

1) more attractive lessons

2) new interdisciplinary projects written in English

3) compulsory subjects and after-school activities taught in English

4) youth exchange programmes more available to young people

5) school trips to Vienna

6) increased interest in learning English among teachers

7) increased international prestige of our school

In 2017 Lower Secondary School No 93 welcomed visitors from Helsinki and held a training workshop within the confines of the project entitled ‘The place where we live’.
